Back in 1994, actor Suniel Shetty was seen in his first comedic role with Mukesh Duggal’s Gopi Kishan. He played a double role (his first) in the film written by Anees Bazmee. Now 23 years later, Suniel’s daughter Athiya is a part of Bazmee’s latest directorial venture Mubarakan in which Arjun Kapoor plays both Charan and Karan in a double role.
Cinestaan.com asked Athiya about the possibility of essaying a double role herself in the future as a promotional event with the media. She replied that as she watched Arjun Kapoor tackle two characters effortlessly, she couldn’t imagine anyone else in the dual roles.
“I genuinely can’t think of anybody who could have pulled it off the way he has. I think he has great comic timing. He doesn’t give himself credit for it but he really does. It’s something you can do only after experience because it’s very tough. You have two characters and you have to make those two characters individual in their own ways. I definitely want to do but right now, I need to still learn and have that experience,” she explained.
The actress will be seen in the family entertainer, her second film, after debuting with Sooraj Pancholi in Hero (2015). Shetty stressed the importance of being patient as an actor to find the right kind of roles.
In Mubarakan, she plays the part of Binkle, a quiet and simple Sardani from London whose marriage is arranged with Karan even though she loves Charan. The film, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz, will be released on 28 July.
