After Piku (2015), Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone’s next film together is a gangster saga produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and directed by Honey Trehan.
The film is based on the chapter Femme Fatale from journalist and author S Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The yet untitled film will go on the floors next year and will be released on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October 2018.
As per reports, Padukone was hesitant to work with a first-time director. But she instantly gave her nod after reading the script which she had been asking Bhardwaj to write. “Deepika had been persuading me to write the script and make a film on Femme Fatale," Bhardwaj told a publication. "I am happy that she loved the script and agreed to work with Honey on this.”
Bhardwaj is happy to see Padukone being cast with Irrfan Khan after Piku. “Irrfan is an incredible actor," he said. "I am looking forward to the two of them coming together in this film. Honey has been with me for more than 15 years. I am sure he will add interesting nuances to the script.”
The film will tell the story of Rahima Khan aka Sapna Didi, who planned to murder gangster Dawood Ibrahim since he had killed her husband. It will be directed by Trehan, who has been a casting director for 15 years as well as an assistant director and producer. He was one of the producers of Chittagong (2012), Talvar (2015) and A Death In The Gunj (2017).
