Young actor Varun Dhawan has apologized through a series of tweets for the 'nepotism rocks' joke at the recently concluded IIFA awards.
Dhawan, along with Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar, has been criticised for his stint during the award ceremony, the act was reportedly a dig at Kangana Ranaut. Dhawan won the IIFA award for Best Performance in Comic Role for Dishoom. Khan and Johar, who were hosting the show, welcomed Dhawan on stage. When Dhawan walked up, Khan told him, “You are here because of your Papa," to which Dhawan replied, "And you're here because of your mummy." Johar then added, “"I am here because of my Papa." The trio then yelled "nepotism rocks" in unison.
The involvement of Ranaut in the nepotism debate began with her comment on Johar's chat show, Koffee With Karan, stating that he favoured star-kids. While the producer-director-actor, recieved the statement on the show with a smile, he later confessed being offended.
The trio have been criticized for their joke, ever since they made it. While Johar and Khan have made no comments, Dhawan has issued an apology to any one who felt offended by his act.
He posted his apology through a couple of tweets.
