A few days ago, Kamal Haasan had created a furore when he named a sexual assault case victim, a Malayalam actress, while interacting with the media. Haasan drew flak for naming the actress, with some calling for a ban on his show reality, Bigg Boss (Tamil). Haasan had made the comment during an interaction with the press pertaining to the reality show.
The seasoned actor was asked a general question on the safety of women in the film industry after the sexual assault case involving the Malayalam actress.
“Why is it the safety of women in the film industry alone? A female's presence in the crowd is important to me and I will not let anything happen to her. It's our duty to see if you are safe. It is not just about actresses. We are not supporting her (mentions the name), because she is an actress,” Haasan had told reporters.
The actor was quickly reminded that he took the name of the alleged victim, Haasan though didn’t see anything wrong in it.
Little did the actor realise then that this would invite trouble for him. National Commission for Women chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam has sent a notice to Haasan demanding an apology for publicly naming the victim.
He agreed to apologise finally, but not before having expressed his views on the whole saga before.
Haasan felt the criticism coming his way was like penalising the lawyer and not the criminal.
Apologize say women, while I love & fight 4them.I wiill bend 2 no woman or man 4 no reason. U r penalizing the lawyer & missing criminals
