Director Ravi Udyawar’s Mom has generated low numbers in the first week. The Sridevi-starrer has made Rs23.50 crore, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film had collected a not-so-encouraging Rs14.25 crore in the opening weekend. Hence, the low collections in the first week don’t come as a surprise.
Mom’s performance in the first week is similar to Hindi Medium's, which made Rs23.25 crore in that period. And like the Irrfan Khan-starrer, the word-of-mouth for Mom is also positive. Due to this, it has some chance in the second week starting today.
It also depends on how Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s Jagga Jasoos fares in the first weekend. The good thing for Hindi Medium was that it had no major competition in the next few weeks. What also goes against Mom is its high cost of production, which is reportedly Rs40 crore.
Guest iin London also released alongside Mom and the film has been a disaster in the first week as it made only Rs7.50 crore.
Hollywood movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, which also completed a week yesterday, has earned almost twice of Mom earnings. By making Rs43 crore in the first week, the film is already the second highest Hollywood grosser this year in India after Fast & Furious 8, which recorded Rs85 crore.
