Priyanka Chopra, who has been shooting this summer for her upcoming Hollywood films, has also been quietly busy as a producer. Her Marathi film Kaay Re Rascala, released under the banner Purple Pebble Pictures, opens today and she is teaming with Madhuri Dixit to produce a new comedy for ABC, the channel that first wooed her to star in Quantico.
The action-drama, co-starring Jake McLaughlin, Johanna Brady and Blair Underwood, has been renewed for a third season under new showrunner Michael Seitzman. Now comes word through a Hollywood production website that Chopra will produce, along with Quantico producers Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper, a comedy show with Dixit for the network.
The synopsis for the untitled comedy, written by writer-producer Sri Rao, states: When a Bollywood superstar settles down in the suburbs with her bi-cultural family, she brings her Technicolor point of view to the otherwise mundane town.
This sounds an awful lot like Dixit’s own life when she married Dr Shriram Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon and settled down in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado in 1999.
It seems as if the project is already picking up pace, as Dixit and her husband were photographed with Sri Rao. He posted the picture of them on his Instagram page.
Rao, who wrote the screenplay for 2016’s Baar Baar Dekho starring Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra, has previously written for the soap opera General Hospital: Night Shift, which also aired on an ABC-owned network, Soapnet in 2007.
A Twitter user, @MadhuriQuote, also confirmed that the project is in the works by posting a photograph of a message from Rao saying, “Stay tuned... Anything from this woman is truly special.
It appears that Dixit will star in the project with Chopra, Gordon and Pepper producing. The two actresses have never starred together in a film, but now will get the chance to work together through this yet-untitled project.
