Jab Harry Met Sejal's Butterfly song: Shah Rukh, Anushka float to Punjabi beats

The Harry Met Sejal team launched the 'Butterfly' song today in Ludhiana. The song has already created some buzz with 203,660 views on YouTube.  

'Butterfly' celebrates the 'Punjabiness' of Harry (Shah Rukh Khan), with him driving a tractor in the lush fields of Punjab. The song has all the components that typically make a catchy Punjabi song in a Hindi film - men and women in punjabi suits doing the bhangra (traditional punjabi dance), and of course the never ending green fields.

The lyrics of the song, penned by Irshad Kamil, feel like a teasing romantic conversation between a new couple. Pritam has created a peppy composition that combines Hindi movie style melody and rollicking Punjabi folk tunes.

The song is sung by Aman Trikha and Sunidhi Chauhan, with Dev Negi and Nooran sisters providing the additional vocals. For a song like this one, a rustic voice would have been the obvious choice, but Chakraborty goes for Trikha, and it makes the track refreshing. He is, in fact, particularly impressive in the way he croons ‘butterrr fly banke’ part.

Sunidhi Chauhan is a seasoned campaigner now and her voice suits Sharma perfectly here. Chauhan has a lot more powerful voice than Trikha, but the duo compliment each other wonderfully. The extended version will enable us to gauge the talent of Nooran sisters.

The music is rhythmic as expected, with dominant sounds of the dhol.  

The visuals are like carnival in a Ludhiana. He’s 51 but there’s no drop in the energy and skills of Shah Rukh Khan, the dancer. As we mentioned before Khan looks stunning in his Sikh avatar. Like its music, the choreography too is a mix of free style and traditional (Punjabi folk) steps. Both Khan and Anushka Sharma truly float like a butterfly.

The song has colour, culture and melody, making it a reasonably fun watch.
