Actress Chitrangada Singh was earlier roped in as the female lead opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. But she walked out of the film citing issues while filming intimate scenes. However, director Kushan Nandy said during the trailer launch of the film that that wasn’t the reason why she abruptly left the film.
“Chitrangada had multiple issues. We might need a different press conference for that. I feel she had the script with her for one-and-a-half years. The script had everything mentioned in detail. Despite that, if she had any issues, I can’t force anyone. I feel it wasn’t just about the intimate scenes because she had already shot them. She had issues with the script,” he said.
He also added that the actress demanded changes in the script. “She saw some holes in the script and she felt that should have been changed. That was her decision,” said Nandy.
Singh was replaced by Bidita Bag. She is a known Bengali actress who is making her Hindi film debut with this film. Nandy seemed happy to have her on board. “I am really glad that it’s come out this way. And I am happy to have Bidita on board. It has really worked for me,” he added.
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz will be released on 25 August.
