Mom, Sridevi’s return to Hindi cinema after English Vinglish (2012), came out last Friday. The veteran actress plays Devki, whose tentative relationship with her stepdaughter Arya is further strained after a horrific incident.
Pakistani artistes Adnan Siddiqui and Sajal Ali play Sridevi’s husband and daughter respectively in the film. They weren’t present for much of the media interaction in India as artistes from the neighbouring country have been banned from working in India after ties between the two countries were strained following the Uri attack on the Indian Army last year.
In special video, Sridevi reached out to them to praise and acknowledge their contribution to the film. Surprisingly, the usually reserved actress was in tears as she praised their work on Mom and signalled out their contribution to the project.
She called Sajal ‘mere baccha (my child)’ and said, “I don’t know why I am becoming emotional. I really miss you all. The way you have worked in the film, it is incredible. This film would have been incomplete without you. It is a special moment for us. We have been waiting for this moment. I miss you all.” She apologised at the end of the video for getting emotional.
Ali shared the touching video on her Instagram page with the caption, “This was actually a surprise to me yesterday. I felt like she was there throughout. I couldn't hold back myself from crying. I am out of words. #iloveyoushrimama”
She shared Sridevi’s sentiment by ending her post with the hashtag ‘I love you Sri mama’. It’s obvious that the two developed a close bond during the making of Mom and have continued to stay in touch even after. Mom is Ali's second feature film after acting in the Pakistani film Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay (2016).
