Salim Khan assures compensation to distributors for Tubelight losses

Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan has confirmed that the distributors of Tubelight would be compensated for the losses they incurred. Speculations of the Khan family shelling out about Rs60 crore is making the rounds.

Expecting the Salman film to follow the superstar’s track record of making it big at the box office, the film was released across 4,400 screens in the country. However, the film fizzled out only days after its release hitting hard on the distributors’ pockets.

"We have assured them that we will share their losses. There are no two ways about this. There is no doubt we shall compensate them. Ab kitna karenge, woh decide karna baaki hai (the compensation amount is yet to be decided on). This can't be decided in a meeting of just 1 or 2 hours," the veteran writer informed the entertainment portal Spotboye.com.

When asked what prompted this gesture Salim Khan replied, "Producer aur distributor ke beech mein ek rishta hota hai (Producer and the distributor are closely connected). If a producer wants to remain in movie business, distributors have to remain alive."

In India, the distribution rights of the film, except for Central India, was bought by NH Studioz for a record Rs132 crore. The film has so far managed to barely cross Rs114.crore net in its domestic business.

A trade analyst had told Cinestaan.com that the family has approched Aditya Chowksey, son of former distributor JP Chowksey, to speak to exhibitors and evaluate the losses incurred.

Tubelight hit the screens on 23 June 2017. Based on the India-China war of 1962, the film speaks of a man (Salman Khan) awaiting the return of his captured brother (Sohail Khan).
