Actor Dhanush has announced that the Velai Illa Pattadhaari franchise, popularly referred to as VIP, will have two more instalments. The actor made this annoucement at a press conference called by the Velai Illa Pattadhaari 2 (VIP 2) team recently.

The film, written by Dhanush and directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, features Dhanush, Kajol and Amala Paul in the lead.

The film marks the return of actress Kajol to Tamil cinema after a gap of 20 years. The actress plays a powerful businesswoman, and the antagonist, in VIP 2. She was last seen in Rajiv Menon's Minsara Kanavu (1997), alongside Arvind Swamy and Prabhu Deva.

Dhanush also disclosed that Kajol is likely to be in the third part of the franchise as well. He said, "I’m confident Kajol will be there in VIP 3, but I’m not sure if she will be there in VIP 4. Depending on how she behaves in part 3, we should decide whether to keep her character alive in part 4 or kill [her]."

The actor-producer also revealed that he would start writing the script for the third part of the film after the release of VIP 2 on 28 July.

While the first film, Velai Illa Pattathari (2014), had Anirudh as the music director, the second film has Sean Roldan composing the music. The actor praised the music director saying that he was a talent to watch out for.

Asked whether VIP 2 director Soundarya Rajinikanth would be directing the next film in the franchise, Dhanush said he had not decided on that.

The actor also disclosed at the press conference that he had plans to work on a sequel to his own directorial debut, Pa Paandi (2017).

"I definitely have plans of doing a sequel to my film Pa Paandi, which spoke about life from the perspective of an elderly person. The only thing I do not know is whether I will be doing that sequel immediately, or whether I will do it after doing one other film," he said in reply to a question.
