Producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed that Roy had been roped in for the sports based film which also stars Kunal Kapoor and Amit Sadh.
It's official! TV actress Mouni Roy joins Akshay Kumar in the hunt for Gold

Last October, Akshay Kumar had announced signing a biopic, Gold, to be directed by Reema Kagti. A week earlier, it was buzzed that TV actress Mouni Roy would be paired opposite Akshay in the sports biopic. Producer Ritesh Sidhwani has now confirmed the news via Twitter.

It’s a breakthrough for Roy who has earlier featured in special appearances in films like Run (2004) and Tum Bin 2 (2016). Roy has been around the TV circuit for a long time. She was one of the leading ladies in the popular Naagin series. Roy had first shot to fame with Ekta Kapoor’s popular soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi from 2007-08.
The film also has Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Sunny Kaushal.
Set in 1948, Gold is the historic story of India's first Olympic medal as a free nation. India achieved its first gold medal in the discipline of field hockey.
The 1948 Olympics saw the Indian field hockey team comprising of Kishan Lal, Leslie Claudius, Keshav Dutt, among others defeat the British team to win the gold. The film is scheduled to release on 15 August 2018.
