Films and cricket are two of India's favourite obsessions. Yet, according to actress Richa Chadda, there is a difference in the latter. The actress has put out a new video on her Instagram page asking fans to step up in support of the women's cricket team representing India at the ongoing Women's World Cup in England.
In the video, the actress says, "Two Sundays ago, India played Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, and we lost. The roads were empty. The shops were shut. It looked like a national holiday."
While that was a low point for Indian cricket, the sport itself is seeing some highlights from Indians at the Women's World Cup. The Indian women's cricket team, led by Mithali Raj, is set to battle their Pakistani counterparts in the tournament. Chadda raises this very point, by asking if fans were aware of it.
The actress says, "We should support the Indian cricket team, irrespective of the gender. I am here, and will hope that you will show as much enthusiasm as you did when you supported the men's team."
Well, as someone who has always stood up for the cause of women, Chadda does have a point.
