Legendary Hollywood actress Meryl Streep is being hailed by everyone across the globe for criticising newly-elected US President Donald Trump for his alleged rude behaviour towards a disabled New York Times reporter in 2015.
In India, the likes of Swara Bhaskar have lauded Streep. However, there’s one tweet and a retweet which caught our attention.
We in our film industry don't even need to give a speech like Meryl Streep if we just start standing up with those who actually speak up.

Anurag Kashyap, the maverick filmmaker, has been keeping a low profile ever since he was trolled for mocking a female journalist and posting her cellphone number on social media. While Kashyap found Streep’s comment inspiring, he didn’t go ahead and praise her, but merely used her speech to highlight his point.
Kashyap’s tweets have been retweeted by over 1.2k Twitter users.
Last October, the filmmaker had dragged Prime Minister Narendra Modi into the controversy surrounding the release of Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which found itself in trouble due to the presence of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
Kashyap had questioned Modi’s unscheduled visit to Pakistan even as there were strong calls to ban Pakistani artistes and Indian films featuring them.
I refuse to live in the fear created by blind fanatics that you cannot have a conversation with your PM or question him or expect from him

Kashyap did not attract much support on social media, while some voices from the industry, too, slammed Kashyap.
"Unwarranted utterances of Mr Anurag Kashyap in fact is damaging KJo’s (Karan Johar’s) film and industry," Paresh Rawal had tweeted then.
Kashyap’s latest tweet is a barb against his critics and was welcomed by music director Vishal Dadlani. The singer-musician, who is a former Aam Aadmi Party member, had incensed the Jain community with his controversial remarks against Jain monk Tarun Sagar. Dadlani later apologised and even met the Jain monk to seek forgiveness.
Given his political views, it wasn’t a surprise to see Dadlani retweet Kashyap.
