It has been reported that Om Puri died of natural causes following a massive heart attack on 6 January. However, a certain ambiguity has arisen over the death of Puri with reports now suggesting that the reason for the actor's death remains ‘unknown’.
Puri's body was taken to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem following his death. Reports have now emerged that the Mumbai police is initiating a probe after registering an accidental death report.
Requesting anonymity, an official from the hospital, said, "The initial report has the reason of death as an unknown cause. The real cause will be revealed after a viscera test. His organs have been sent to the lab for conclusive tests. The final report usually takes about a month's time.”
The Om Puri that not many knew about
Puri was said to have hurt the back of his head, perhaps due to a fall. Confirming the same, the hospital official added, "There was a slight wound at the back of his head. That is not enough to kill a person. Though there’s nothing to suggest any foul play, one will have to wait for the final report to conclude anything."
Producer Khalid Kidwai, who spent a substantial time with Puri on Thursday (5 January) evening, told a tabloid that Puri had come to his estranged second wife Nandita's apartment Trishul in Versova.
"Om Puri wanted to meet his son Ishan on Thursday evening. So we (Kidwai and Puri) went to Trishul building where his ex-wife Nandita lives with Ishan, but were unable to meet them as both Nandita and Ishan had gone for a party. Om Puri then had an argument over the phone with Nandita and asked them to come soon as he wanted to meet his son," Kidwai is said to have told the Oshiwara police in his statement.

Kidwai further mentioned in his statement that Puri waited around the flat for 45 minutes and then started drinking in his car. A security guard in the nearby garden had told us earlier that he had spotted Puri at around 2.30 am with his wife Nandita.
When Cinestaan.com contacted the Oshiwara police station, police sub-inspector Shiv Kumar Gaekwad confirmed the development. "As of now, we have registered his death under ADR (accidental death report). An inquiry has been initiated and few people have been questioned. We are also waiting for the final autopsy report."
Meanwhile, Nandita and Seema Kapoor, Puri's former wives will hold two separate prayer meetings today evening.
