Shabana Azmi to Anupam Kher: Om Puri’s contemporaries offer their condolences


Several veteran actors mourned the death of one India's finest artists.

The New Year has started on a sad note not only for the film fraternity but also for millions of film lovers. The demise of veteran actor Om Puri has ensured an atmosphere of sadness and shock in India and abroad. The late versatile actor has always received respect from his long list of contemporaries. They are obviously in grief and have shared their deepest condolences for the artist. 

Kher has acted with Puri in quite a few films. The notabe ones among these include, Rang De Basanti (2006), Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge (2000), Chup Chup Ke (2006) and Zor (1998). 

Shabana Azmi and Puri were the pioneers of the parallel cinema movement in Hindi cinema. They have worked together in a series of such films including, Sparsh (1980), Paar (1984), Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai (1980), Dharavi (1992) and Mandi (1983).

Amitabh Bachchan has been Puri's co-star in Lakshya (2004), Dev (2004), Kyun! Ho Gaya Na (2004), Baabul (2006) and Delhi 6 (2009). The deceased actor gained stardom with Govind Nihalani's Ardha Satya (1983). He got the film after Bachchan refused it. Puri has mentioned in several interviews that he thanks Bachchan for refusing the film.​
