Separation never easy, more so if you have a child, says Nandita Das

Nandita Das has separated from industrialist Subodh Maskara after being married to him for seven years, according to a report in the DNA newspaper.

"Subodh and I have decided to separate. Thankfully, it is very amicable. Our son is our foremost priority and as parents of a delightful and sensitive child we request that his and our privacy be respected. There is nothing to hide and there is nothing more to be said,” Das told the paper.

The Fire (1998) actress also urged everyone to to let the family have privacy. "Separation is never easy, more so if you have a child. For us, our son is our main concern and we are committed to ensuring his well-being," she said.

Meanwhile, Maskara, too, spoke briefly about ending his marriage  "Sometimes people just drift apart and separation is the best solution for both individuals. It helps them blossom, as was the case for us," he told The Times of India newspaper.

The couple has two homes – one in Bandra and the other in Worli. While Das will move to the Bandra residence, Maskara will stay in Worli. Das and Maskara have a son Vihaan. The couple were married in 2010 and founded their own production house Chhoti Production Pvt Limited.

In 2002, Das had married ad filmmaker Saumya Sen before divorcing him in 2007.
