After the spectacular success of his Marathi film Sairat, Nagraj Popatrao Manjule’s next is keenly awaited. Well, his next project is ready, but it’s not a film. It’s a song for the second edition of the Satyamev Jayate Water Cup.

The project is a partnership between Aamir Khan’s TV show Satyamev Jayate and the government of Maharashtra. It includes a water-harvesting contest between villages of various talukas in the state to combat drought.

The song ‘Toofan Aala’ traces the journey of the villagers as they go about making valiant efforts to harvest water. Manjule has shown his class by keeping the storytelling aspect in mind throughout. So, although it’s a real-life documentary, it can also be passed off as a fictional short film.

The moment when the villagers’ efforts prove successful moves you. The scene in which two rival political outfits throw away their respective flags and replace them with the Tricolour deserves special mention.

Composer duo Ajay-Atul and lyricist Guru Thakur have made equally important contributions. The end result is a track that one can enjoy even if one does not understand Marathi.

Apart from Aamir Khan himself, the video has a line-up of Marathi film stars, including Sonali Kulkarni, Sai Tamhankar, Sunil Barve, Jitendra Joshi, Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar, the lead pair from Sairat, Manjule himself and Ajay-Atul. The superstar's on-screen daughter in Dangal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, also makes an appearance.

The song marks Aamir Khan's wife Kiran Rao’s debut as a singer. Enjoy:
