Box-office report: Raees inching towards Rs100 crore, Kaabil fails Monday test

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees is a clear winner of the first box-office clash of 2017.

It is now becoming more and more clear as to who has emerged the winner in the first box-office clash of 2017 between Raees and Kaabil. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer is way ahead of the Hrithik Roshan-starrer. Both the films saw a drop in collections on its first Monday. But the drop for the latter is much bigger, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Raees managed to earn Rs6 crore on Monday. It had made Rs17.25 crore a day before. The film’s overall tally in India currently stands at Rs98.25 crore. It is expected to cross the three-figure mark today. The film has at least easily surpassed its cost of production, which is approximately Rs85 crore.

The same cannot be said about Kaabil though. The film didn’t pass the first Monday test as it earned only Rs4 crore. It had made Rs12.25 crore on Sunday. It’s total now stands at Rs58 crore, which is still Rs2 crore less than its approximate cost of production of Rs60 crore. Kaabil saw a 90% jump in collections on the Republic Day holiday, but it couldn’t capitalise on it later on.

There is no major release this Friday. But that is not expected to benefit any of the two films as by the time Friday arrives, they would have already completed an extended nine-day week.
