Laxmikant Berde's son Abhinay set for film debut

Over 12 years after his father's death, 19-year-old Abhinay will follow in the footsteps of his parents, Laxmikant and Priya Berde.

Abhinay Berde, son of legendary actor and comedian Laxmikant Berde, will make his debut with Marathi film Ti Saddhya Kay Karte to be released on 6 January 2017.

Abhinay was only seven years old when Laxmikant died due to a kidney ailment on 16 December 2004. Over 12 years after his father's death, 19-year-old Abhinay will follow in the footsteps of his parents Laxmikant and Priya Arun Berde. Laxmikant loved his profession so much that he called his son Abhinay which means acting in Marathi. Coincidentally, both father and son share their birthday on the same day — 3 November. Before he passed on, Laxmikant had started a production house called Abhinay Arts.

Earlier, it was reported that Abhinay would make his debut in the sequel of his father’s hit film Zapatlela (1993). Mahesh Kothare, director of Zapatlela and his Laxmikant's best friend, was keen to get Abhinay on board, but it did not work out. Mahesh then made the film with his son Adinath Kothare as Zapatlela 2 which was released in 2013.

Abhinay's mother Priya raised him and sister Swanandi (then 4), single-handedly after her husband's death. She returned to acting to support the family. Abhinay and Swanandi stayed at the same hostel and completed their education at Sinhgad Springdale Residential Public School in Pune .

After completing his tenth standard in Pune, Abhinay decided to step into the world of acting and returned to Mumbai. While studying Arts at Mithibai College in Vile Parle, he got involved with various theatre groups, including one called AmyGo. He is also active in Prithvi Theatre and other groups, and in college drama groups where he did various plays and made a name for himself.

Ti Saddhya Kay Karte which is to be released on 6 January, is a love story spanning across three phases of the main character, where Abhinay makes his debut along with playback singer Aarya Ambekar. Abhinay plays the teenage version of popular Marathi actor Ankush Chaudhari. Incidentally, Chaudhari had made his debut opposite Laxmikant in Soona Yeti Ghara (1995).

Abhinay is focussed on an acting career, and wants to take up more serious topics over comedy.

Here's wishing the new kid-on-the-block all the best!
