Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees emerged a clear winner at the box-office on its opening day. The film earned much more than Kaabil, against whom it had clashed, and scored Rs20.25 crore. The Hrithik Roshan starrer managed only Rs8 crore on the first day.

Raees review: Typical underworld entertainer with high dose of Shah Rukh Khan

Raees has soared even higher on the second day yesterday, which was a Republic Day, by amassing Rs26.25 crore, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The Rahul Dholakia-directed film was expected to have a jump in collections and it has lived up to it. It is not a huge jump which is understandable due to two reasons — it had scored big on the first day itself and was pitted against another important film.

It’s total score at the box-office now stands at Rs46.50 crore from two days, which is impressive. The film is reportedly made at an approximate budget of Rs85 crore. It is expected to surpass that score in the next three days. If the film earns a big profit, it will bring Shah Rukh back to his winning ways. His last two solo releases — Dilwale (2015) and Fan (2016) — failed to score well at the box-office.

Kaabil review: Hrithik Roshan's performance is highlight of this revenge drama

The film has also managed to score two box-office records. It has defeated Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (2014) to earn the highest collections ever on a Republic Day. Jai Ho had earned Rs25 crore. The collections are also the highest ever for a film on a single day when it has clashed with another big film.
