42 years of Deewaar: Is Amitabh Bachchan taking a dig at shelf life of today's films?

Known to be diplomatic, Amitabh Bachchan seldom loses his cool. He responds to criticism politely too. The superstar's recent tweet makes one wonder if the actor was taking a dig at the shelf life of modern films.

As Deewaar (1975) completes 42 years tomorrow (24 January), Bachchan turned nostalgic, posting an archival picture. In the post, he called the Yash Chopra-directed cult classic as the finest screenplay he’d ever seen and also underlined how the film ran for 100 weeks in cinema halls.

While the feat of Deewaar is unquestionable, Bachchan compared it to the barely few weeks long run of films these days. As the actor puts it, times have indeed changed. 

Deewar bagged the Best Film, Best Director, and other popular Filmfare Awards that year. Bachchan lost out the Best Actor award to Sanjeev Kuamr for Aandhi. Bachchan equated the 100-week run to getting a trophy.
