Harshvardhan Kapoor was presented with Best Debutant award in a couple of award functions for his act in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya. However, the actor missed out winning the trophy in the recently concluded Filmfare Awards. The award went to Diljit Dosanjh for Udta Punjab.
The actor expressed his disappointment during an interview with a daily. He said that since Dosanjh has already acted in a number of Punjabi films, he shouldn’t be considered a debutant. He also added, “For instance, if Leonardo DiCaprio works in a Hindi film, is he making an acting debut? He has already worked in so many Hollywood films.”
It seems this hasn’t gone down well with Filmfare. The publication’s executive editor, Anuradha Chaudhary mocked Kapoor without naming on Twitter. She said, “The sense of self-entitlement some of these newcomer actors have is beyond imagination. If only they were half as talented.”
Kapoor was quick to realise this. He quote tweeted her and said, “Just take my name,” and “And go through people's filmographys while your at it.” This isn’t all though. He quote tweeted her twice with, “It's amazing , you can't share your thoughts at all , then you become the anatagonist you guys run a business on things actors say,” and “It's not entitlement it's an opinion just like how your magazine always has one (sic).”
While replying to someone, he mentioned that Dosanjh has acted in a Hindi film before. Actually, he made a song appearance in Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (2012). Kapoor also tagged Jim Sarbh, who played the terrorist in Neerja, and said that he wouldn't mind losing to him. He said, “@jimSarbh was amazing in #neerja and is a newcomer would've been happy to lose to him.”
Finally, Kapoor ended his Twitter rant with, “Don't feel entitled to any award, I'm questioning the principle of who is a newcomer, have zero problems losing to a genuine newcomer.”
Dosanjh has still not reacted to this.
