From the trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon, it is evident that the unit would have had a seriously tough time shooting, especially in the outdoor locations in Arunachal Pradesh. This is exactly what Shahid Kapoor felt.
“I thought I had been through like the most difficult possible experiences that an actor could, but Arunachal was another level altogether. It was an extremely new and different experience. Very true and honest to the spirit of Rangoon,” he said in the recently released behind-the-scene video by the makers.
From what Saif Ali Khan has spoken about the film, it seems it shows a different side of India. “It’s an interesting time. The film is set in the 1940s, when we are really not sure what India is. My character sees India as a kind of feudal place where he makes films. And he kind of is friendly to the hand that feeds him, which is basically the English,” he said.
Over the last few years, Kangana Ranaut has been clear in choosing roles that cannot be categorised as a typical heroine. Talking about her complex character in Rangoon, Ranaut said, “Her relationship is with Nawab, who is a dynamic character who actually triggers that sort of transformation in her.”
The behind-the-scenes footage also springs a surprise as we get to see the light-hearted side of the crew while filming a difficult movie in difficult conditions.
