Films about modern, urban youth are being churned out regularly these days in mainstream Hindi cinema. Most of these films revolve around relationships. But director Shashi Sudigala’s Mona Darling is a whodunit, which is claimed to be India’s first 'social media thriller.'
Produced by Vashu Bhagnani’s Puja Entertainment, the film stars Anshuman Jha, Divya Menon and Suzanna Mukherjee in the lead. It also has Sanjay Suri as one of the supporting cast playing a police officer.
The film seems to revolve around a group of youngsters including Jha, Menon and Mukherjee. Four youngsters from a college are murdered. Initially there seems to be no connection between the killings. But later it is found that all the victims had accepted a friend request from a fraudulent profile.
Mona Darling looks like a typical murder mystery. Going by the trailer, it has all the elements one finds in this genre – innocents getting killed, loud background score, screams, an unknown culprit, a duty-bound cop and skin show. Since this is a thriller about technology, a bespectacled geek is also at hand. But what is surprising is the last sequence in the trailer which makes you wonder if the film has an element of horror as well.
Mona Darling is set for release on 17 February.
