Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu is the official Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam’s highly appreciated and successful OK Kanmani (2015). It seems the remake isn’t set to have the same fate as the original at the box-office. It has earned only Rs11.75 crore in its first weekend.

Starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, OK Jaanu opened poorly by earning only Rs3.50 crore on its opening day. The collections for Saturday and Sunday were expected to rise because of these being holidays. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen with this film as it made only Rs4.25 crore and Rs4 crore on Saturday and Sunday.

Surprisingly, the Sunday collections are lower than Saturday. India’s important cricket match with England is believed to be the reason for this. Trade experts are also believing that the low collections down south can be attributed to Chiranjeevi’s comeback film, Khaidi No 150, which set the cash registers ringing by amassing Rs41 crore on its opening day.
OK Jaanu is reportedly made at a budget of Rs28 crore. With only Rs11.75 crore in its first weekend and a not-so-good word of mouth, the film will struggle to even recover its cost.

On the other hand, Aamir Khan’s Dangal continues to surprise. The Nitesh Tiwari-directed film has set the record for highest fourth weekend collections by making Rs10.15 crore. It has broken the record of Khan's own 3 Idiots (Rs9.75 crore). The film's overall total now stands at a mammoth Rs358 crore.
