The much-awaited Sanjay Dutt biopic has finally gone on the floors. Rajkumar Hirani will return to direction after three years with the biopic on the controversial actor. Hirani has picked Ranbir Kapoor to step into Dutt's shoes.

The usually reticent Hirani, whose last directorial venture was PK, tweeted about the commencement of the Dutt biopic shooting.

Starting a film with a funny shot is bound to keep the cast and crew in good spirits.

Given the turbulent life Dutt has lived, there's been plenty of speculation over what would be included in the biopic in terms of controversies. Hirani chose not to reveal much.

"It's not a film about guns, drugs and the underworld. It's a feel-good film about a father-son relationship with Paresh Rawal playing Sunil Dutt and Ranbir as Sanju... A buddy film with Sanju's many friends adding up to one from the US, played by Vicky Kaushal," Hirani told tabloid Mumbai Mirror.

The director also revealed that Anushka Sharma would be playing a journalist in the film. While he hasn't revealed Sonam Kapoor's character, Hirani merely stated that Sonam is embodying all the women that Dutt has loved. Speculation is rife that Sonam could be playing Madhuri Dixit. The hunt for Nargis is still on, reported the tabloid.

The title of the film has not been revealed yet. Some rumours had suggested the film could be called 'Baba'.

Hirani had captured the real Dutt coming out of Yerwada jail on 25 February last year after serving his sentence in the illegal possession of arms case.

Early last year, there was buzz that Hirani wanted to release the film on Christmas 2017. However, with Salman Khan having locked the date for Tiger Zinda Hai, it remains to be seen whether Hirani would want competition.
