Before OK Jaanu I was offered few films opposite Aditya Roy Kapur: Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor is back on the big screen with Aditya Roy Kapur in Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu. A lot is riding on the film because of the success of their previous outing together, Aashiqui 2, and the fact that OK Jaanu is a remake of Mani Ratnam's highly-appreciated, OK Kanmani (2015). The actress is nervous and excited as the film is about to be released. In a candid chat with Cinestaan.com, Shraddha shared interesting tidbits.

The movie is nearing its release date. Are you confident?
I am nervous and excited. 

Are you nervous because your last film Rock On 2 didn’t do well?
No, I am nervous and excited actually before every film. So, no it’s not because of that. 

How much does it affect you after a film doesn’t do well? 
When your film doesn’t do well, you go into a spiral of thoughts as to whether you are making the right choice and doing the right thing. There is a part of you which says, 'Okay, don’t give up hope and stop trying.' In my case, two of my first films didn’t do well. I didn’t take that well at all. But now I feel I have learnt something from that and I am a little stronger now. Before Aashiqui 2, mine and Aditya’s previous films hadn’t done well. Now again we have our second release and both our previous films haven’t done well.

Would you like to rework on Rock On 2 in any way?
As an actor, director or whatever, you do whatever you can and give your best. You leave the rest to who goes and watches your film. I am very proud to be a part of Rock On 2. If you ask me, I would be a part of it again and start shoot all over again. I won’t say if I go back I would change anything (in the film). 

In your short career so far, you have played different kinds of roles. What is different about this character? 
Largely, the banter and the conversations are very real. Those who have seen OK Kanmani would know it is really beautiful. You would feel, I can relate to this or that. That’s Mani sir’s (Ratnam) touch. Such conversations and scenes are new. It’s something I have never done. 

Don’t you think a lot of comparison takes place these days between the original and the remake? 
Comparisons will surely happen once it releases. In fact, the comparisons have already begun from the trailer release itself.

Have you tried to improvise on the characters from the original?
Both actors were really good in the movie. They were amazing. It was their interpretation and they did full justice to it. I think I have also tried to put my interpretation and do it the way Shaad (Ali) saw the character. It also made sense to him to mould me the way he wanted to. 

What do you look for in a film before choosing it?
It’s just a feeling from your heart. It might not be logical or anything. It just happens that this feels correct. After my movies did well back-to-back, some people told me that I have a very good script sense and I choose films that do well at the box-office. I said, no I don’t have any script sense as such. If I like the story and if I feel I would be happy for those 40, 60 or 100 days for 15, 17 or 20 hours daily, I feel like being a part of the film. It gives you that high on set every day. 

You would next be seen in Haseena. 
I am actually quite excited and really scared to play Haseena. It’s my first grey shaded sort of character. Just thinking of it makes me feel, ‘Oh my god, how is that going to happen?’ All my characters so far have had positive shades. 

Were you offered any films opposite Aditya after the success of Aashiqui 2?
We were offered few, but it didn’t feel like how it felt for OK Jaanu.
