Rangoon's first song, 'Bloody Hell', is the perfect opener to Vishal Bhardwaj's promising film. Aptly titled 'Bloody Hell', the song encapsulates the dynamic energy and personality of its heroine, Julia, played by Kangana Ranaut. From wielding the whip to charming an entire cantonment of army officers, Ranaut is in fine form, and personifies the temptress to perfection. The song was released late on Tuesday night, just like the trailer, by the makers of the film.

Set in the 40s, the song also captures the vibe of the era from the costumes to the choreography. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, the song has a feel of the 40s era, with its large orchestral backgrounds and choreography. Chauhan manages to bring the right balance of seductiveness and mischief to her voice, which enhance Ranaut's moves on screen. Clad in army fatigues, and armed with a whip, Ranaut adds to the mischievous layer of this fast-paced, peppy song.
From cracking the whip to bring her audience to attention to battling in the mud with a roguish Shahid Kapoor, and handling the attentions of the suave, but scheming Saif Ali Khan, Ranaut is at the top of her game. The song sets up the intrigue for the film nicely, with its sneak peak into the love triangle set in the midst of a turbulent war.
The song also brings back the combination of lyricist Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj's music. As usual, the veteran lyricist delivers some whimsical lines that combine English and Hindi to great effect. The magic lies in the punchline of 'Bloody Hell' that stands up on Bhardwaj's grand orchestration to make a crackling effect.
In all, this is a song that captures the effect of a Hunterwali Ranaut to perfection.
Rangoon is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and stars Ranaut, Khan and Kapoor in the lead roles. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on 24 February.
