The song also shows the journey of their romance.

The ‘Udi Udi Jaye’ song from Raees is here finally. There were expectations from this track since the makers had given us a glimpse of it in the film’s first trailer. Featuring the lead actors, Shah Rukh Khan and debutant Mahira Khan, the song proves to be worth the wait.

As the story of the film is set in Gujarat, the song brings to light the culture of the state. It features its two important festivals: Makarsankranti and Navratri. But the song overall is a romantic track between Shah Rukh and Mahira. It shows the development of their romance, finally leading to their nikaah (marriage) in the end. The two of them share a good chemistry, although Mahira doesn’t look entirely comfortable while dancing.

Veteran and celebrated lyricist Javed Akhtar has shown his class here. He has mixed two festivals and romance in a single track. He has done it so smartly that none of the three elements appear out of place. Ram Sampath’s music contains traditionalism and modernism. Singers Karsan Sagathia and Bhoomi Trivedi have purposely not tried to bring out the Gujarati accent, which works.

There is 8-9 month gap between Makarsankranti and Navratri. So, we can assume that the song will be played twice in the film.

Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Raees will be released on 25 January.
