Hindi film stars have had a long-standing affair with politics. Well-known names like Paresh Rawal, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Jaya Bachchan and Raj Babbar have been part of political parties for long.

Recently, music composer duo Sajid-Wajid also entered the arena by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Now, actors Jackie Shroff and Arjun Rampal have given them company by campaigning for the BJP in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh state elections, which are starting next month.

The two of them visited the party headquarters in Delhi today morning where they were formally inducted into the party. The party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also met them. Shroff and Rampal are said to play a key role in the party’s campaign for UP elections.

Speaking about his decision of campaigning for the party, Rampal said that he has no intentions of becoming a politician and fighting elections. He said, “I am not a politician and am not here for politics. I am here to see how can I extend my support to them.”

The elections will be held in the state in seven phases starting 11 February, while the results will be declared on 11 March. The polls are looked forward to as the big battle between BJP and the ruling Samajwadi Party.
