After the successful Airlift (2016), Raja Krishna Menon is now helming Chef, where Saif Ali Khan plays the titular role. The film is an official remake of Jon Favreau’s 2014 Hollywood film of the same name where Favreau played the central character.
The Hindi remake also stars Chandan Roy Sanyal. He is best known for his act as Mikhail in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey (2009). In an exclusive interaction with Cinestaan.com, Roy Sanyal reveals more details about Chef.
The film is centred on a father and his son. “The story is basically about a father and son's relationship. Saif has an 11-year-old kid. The story moves forward while making food,” he said.
But there is also a competition angle in the film. Roy Sanyal added, “I play Saif’s protege, who is also a chef. The film also has a competition between both of us in making food. My character joins Saif and his son in their journey. There is also a food bus in the film.”
Roy Sanyal also stars in Imtiaz Ali’s The Ring, which has Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma as the main leads. “I play a restaurant owner who stays in Portugal. He is a funny guy. It’s a good role that people would like. I am like a breath of fresh air,” he said.
Chef and The Ring will be released on 14 July and 11 August, respectively.
