Staying true to the flavour of the film, the song ‘Badri Ki Dulhania’ from Shashank Khaitan’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania is a colourful, fun number featuring the lead pair, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt performing high-octane dance moves.
The old folk song, ‘Chalat Musafir Moh Liya Re Pinjde Wali Muniya’ has been hugely popular in Uttar Pradesh. This song from Badrinath Ki Dulhania is heavily inspired by the popular folk song. It is catchy and the foot-tapping music could become a earworm. Composer Tanishk Bagchi has kept the traditional feel alive despite making a modern-day composition. The sound of the harmonium is infectious.
The track is sung by four singers — Dev Negi, Neha Kakkar, Monali Thakur and Ikka — and they have succeeded in coming up with a fun track. Lyricist Shabbir Ahmed has also included a rap in between. But unlike most of the rap lyrics of today’s times, this one is very desi.
Both Dhawan and Bhatt perform well-choreographed dance moves, adding to the charm of the track and complementing each other well. Their impressive chemistry is once again on display.
The song also features the festival of Holi. The set design is lavish, beautiful and vibrant. It may seem a tad too rich, and we believe that could be producer Karan Johar's touch. Johar's love for elaborate sets has been seen in his own directorial ventures.
The folk song has been used quite a few times before in Hindi films. The most famous of them all is Teesri Kasam (1966). The most recent example is Dabangg 2 (2012). A part of the song 'Pandeyji Seeti' is based on this song.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is to be released on 10 March.
