Box-office: Raees defeats Kaabil, but doesn’t score high in first week

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees has entered the Rs100 crore club.

The first week numbers of the first box-office clash of the year are out. Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees has emerged a clear winner against Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil. Both films had released during the Republic Day weekend on 25 January.

Raees has managed to earn Rs111.75 crore in the nine-day extended week period. Kaabil, on the other hand, has made only Rs67 crore approximately.

But Raees has failed to capitalise much after doing well in the five-day extended weekend. The film scored Rs92.50 crore in this period against Kaabil’s total of Rs54 crore. The downward trend from Monday onwards has ensured that the film’s grand total right now isn’t as high as one would have expected. The absence of strong word-of-mouth publicity is touted to be the reason for it.

Kaabil hasn’t managed well in the weekdays too. It made Rs4 crore on the first Monday and the trend remained pretty much the same in the coming days. But its daily earnings in the weekday period are on par with Raees. This is the reason why the Roshan-starrer will still get a decent number of screens in the second week.

However, Raees and Kaabil are not expected to earn much in the second week. Even with no single big release this week, their capacity to earn more is likely to remain unaffected.
