Rani Mukerji: I signed Hichki as it’s based on a positive premise

The actress will return to the big screen after her maternity break.

Reports of Rani Mukerji signing a film called Hichki to be produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF) have been doing the rounds. Now, the production house has officially announced the film with the actress.

A statement from YRF has stated that she has indeed signed Hichki. This will be her first film after her maternity break. The film will be directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, who had made his directorial debut with Karan Johar’s We Are Family (2010). The film starred Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal.

According to YRF, the film is about a woman who turned her biggest weakness into her biggest strength.

Speaking about choosing the film, Mukerji said, “I was looking for a script that would challenge and excite me, and Hichki came my way. Each of us has a weakness that pulls us back. It could be a disability or any condition but if we just look at it as simply a hiccup, we can emerge as a winner. It won’t come in the way of achieving our dreams. Hichki is built on this positive premise and I decided to take it up.” Mukerji's last film, Mardaani (2014) was also with the same production house.

Hichki will be Maneesh Sharma’s third film as a producer with YRF after Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) and Meri Pyari Bindu, which is slated to release on 12 May.
