The first trailer of first-time filmmaker Anshai Lal’s Phillauri gave a glimpse into the song ‘Sahiba.’ The romantic number featuring Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh has been released now.

The song has ‘old world charm’ written all over it. Shashwat Sachdev’s music brings the Punjabi folk feel. But at the same time, the treatment of the track is such that it would be appealing to contemporary audiences. The song is sung by Romy who puts his heart into it. He is supported by Pawni Pandey of ‘Laila O Laila’ fame.
But Anvita Dutt’s soulful lyrics are the most impressive factor about 'Sahiba'. The opening lines, ‘Tujhse aisa ulja dil dhaga-dhaga khicha, darga pe jaise ho chadaron sa bichha’ deserve special mention for being heartfelt and poetic.
You can’t help but be impressed by the rich and detailed production design, which has recreated the pre-partition era. The old way of recording a song through a loudspeaker-like hollow, cylindrical object is fascinating. This is probably the first time the technique finds space on the big screen.
Sharma and Dosanjh make an impressive lead pair. It will be interesting to see their chemistry in the film. Although the song is based on flashbacks, it also features Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada from the current era.
Phillauri will be released on 24 March.
