The trend of remaking or remixing old songs from the 1990s in new films seems to be growing. After ‘Humma Humma’ and ‘Tamma Tamma’, it’s time for 'Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ from Mohra (1994) to be remade. The song will be featured in Abbas-Mustan’s next film, Machine.
The new version will feature Mustafa, son of Abbas Burmawala of the Abbas-Mustan duo. Mustafa makes his big screen debut with this film.
Interestingly, this could be the first remake to be sung by the person who sang the original, Udit Narayan in this case. The female version will be sung by Neha Kakkar. The original was rendered by Kavita Krishnamurthy.
Talking to a newspaper, Abbas said, “Udit Narayan, who sang the original, will record it again with Neha Kakkar this time round. We will shoot the song with Mustafa and Kiara Advani. It will feature as a situational track in the film.”
The song from Machine will also be shot in a club, but the actors’ look will be different. “The costumes will not be the same," Abbas said. "But we may make Mustafa sport dark glasses.”
Akshay Kumar, on whom the original song was filmed, will be the first to see the new song. "We have worked with him on several films and he is a favourite," Abbas said. "This is one of his best-known songs, so Mustafa needs his blessings.”
Machine will be released on 24 March.
