The remake of Yash Chopra's 1969 thriller, Ittefaq, has gone on the floors. Actor Sidharth Malhotra tweeted a picture announcing the beginning of the shoot for the film. Ittefaq was one of Yash Chopra's bigger hits in 1969, with Rajesh Khanna playing a murder accused on the run. The film was also one of Khanna's biggest hits before his rise as a romantic superstar.

The remake is being produced by Dharma Productions and Red Chillies, along with BR Chopra films. The film is also directed by Abhay Chopra, the grand nephew of the late Yash Chopra. While Malhotra is set to step into the shoes of Khanna, Sonakshi Sinha will be taking up the role played by actress Nanda in the original film.

The image also shows Malhotra's hand carrying a bruise that fits in with the image of him as an on-the-run murderer. In an interview, Malhotra had said he was excited to work on the film, adding, "The character I portray is unlike any of the characters I have played so far and I am really excited to retrieve the genre of murder mystery with the classic cult movie."

The film is expected to be ready for theatrical release by the end of the year.
