Director Shashank Khaitan and Dharma Production’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) was a romantic comedy starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt. Now, the trailer of the second film in the series, Badrinath Ki Dulhania is out. The film carries forward the entire main team of the director, producer and lead cast. And like the first film, this also looks like yet another youthful rom-com based in a small town.
The trailer indicates that Badrinath Ki Dulhania has all the necessary ingredients for a film of this genre — situational humour, hero flirting with the heroine, romance, songs and dances and lastly, heartbreak. So, it seems there is no dearth of entertainment. However, this also means that this is yet another formula film in this genre.
Therefore, it is vital for it to ensure that the audience gets something new out of it. One can hope that the film will have some novelty factor, which the makers have deliberately kept out of the trailer.
The first film was based in Punjab. But here, Dhawan and Bhatt's characters are from a Hindi heartland. The accent adds to the humour. The Badlapur actor seems to have got the pronunciation pretty right. Bhatt too appears promising and the two of them once again share a great chemistry. This is their third film together after Student Of The Year (2012) and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
The trend of remaking old Hindi songs is on a high these days. Badrinath Ki Dulhania features Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit’s hit ‘Tamma Tamma Loge’ song from Thanedaar (1990), which is played in the trailer. It appears like an enjoyable track.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania will be released this year during the festival of Holi on 10 March.
