Gurinder Chadha on the human dimension of the Partition tragedy

Though India and Pakistan complete 70 years as independent countries this year, the wounds inflicted by the catalysmic event that accompanied their birth continue to be raw. Different sets of people on both sides of the border have their own sets of villains whom they love to blame and excoriate for Partition.

British filmmaker Gurinder Chadha's latest, Viceroy's House, which was premiered at the Berlin film festival in Germany last weekend, deals with this momentous event in India and Pakistan's history and the politics and geopolitics behind it.

Chadha spoke to Meenakshi Shedde, South Asia consultant to the Berlin film festival and a contributor to Cinestaan.com, on the sidelines of the festival. Watch their interaction here:
