The magic of Phillauri has already cast a spell on fans with its lovely trailer. Now, the first track from the film, 'Dum Dum', is all set to take it to another level. Featuring the unlikely, but charming pair of Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh, the song is a Sufi ballad on love and longing that is subliminal in its simplicity.
Both, Sharma and Dosanjh, were involved in the promotion of the song since yesterday. Sharma had put up a video on her Twitter account yesterday announcing the launch of the first song of their film, and it certainly lives up to the promise.
Sung in the voices of Romy and Vivek Hariharan, the song is composed by Shashwat Sachdev with lyrics penned by Anvita Dutt. Starting out with the simple background support of the iktara, the ballad rests mainly on its lyrics that are an innocent celebration of love. From the mesmerising shots of Sharma walking through the fields of golden 'sarson' in Punjab, to the charming expressions of Dosanjh, the song picks up from where the trailer left off. There is a certain throwback feel to the idea of innocent love expressed through stolen glances and smiles that adds to the video.
The song might not be the blockbuster to kick off the album, but it is certainly soothing. Lines like 'Dum dum udti hai dua', Shashwat Sachdev's minimalist composition utilises the voices of Romy and Hariharan to the fullest. The soothing strain of the iktara brings an authenticity to the verses, and adds to the feel of the song. The composition certainly makes this album one to watch out for.
Phillauri is directed by Anshai Lal, with Sharma, Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada in the lead. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 24 March.
