Sanjay Dutt finished his jail term at the start of 2016. He was sentenced after he was found guilty of illegal possession of arms. Since his release, fans have anticipated his return return to the movies.
The wait is finally over. Dutt has just begun shooting for his comeback film titled, Bhoomi. He gave the mahurat shot yesterday morning (15 February) at Bamrauli Katara, a village on the outskirts of Agra.
The film is directed by Omung Kumar, who has helmed Mary Kom (2014) and Sarbjit (2016). This is the first time that he is moving away from the biopic genre as Bhoomi is a revenge saga. It sees Aditi Rao Hydari playing the role of Dutt’s daughter.
The director has revealed on his WhatsApp status that he will be in Agra for two months, which indicates that the first schedule will be shot there for a couple of months.
T-Series and Sandeep Singh’s Legend Studios are the producers on board. Singh has earlier been associated with films like Rowdy Rathore (2012), Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (2012), Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram-Leela (2013), Mary Kom (2014), Aligarh (2015) and Sarbjit (2016).
Singh is happy that Dutt and Hydari are on board for Bhoomi. Speaking to a publication, he said, “I am really keen on seeing the brilliance of two talented actors in a never-seen-before pairing come alive on screen.”
Bhoomi will be released on 4 August this year.
