While the rumours around Rajkumar Hirani's biopic on Sanjay Dutt continue, the cast of the film has started to slowly get into the groove. After Ranbir Kapoor was spotted trying to embody Dutt's personality, it is Vicky Kaushal's turn to get some prep done.

In a recent interview with tabloid Mid Day, the Masaan actor revealed that his role is a combination of a few of Dutt's close friends, including Dutt's brother-in-law, Kumar Gaurav.

Kaushal told the daily, "I can't say much, but the character is primarily based on his close friend who lives in the US. That friend has been with him [Dutt] through thick and thin. I have major prep lined up and it requires a lot of travelling."

Reports suggest that Kaushal's character is likely to be a fictional combination of several individuals in Dutt's life. Sonam Kapoor is also set to play another character, in love with Dutt in the film, based on similar lines.

Kaushal, who has fast become a standout performer through his work in films like Masaan (2015) and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) said, "I will do whatever it takes. I feel the need to give my all to this role because it is a fantastic script, which makes you laugh and cry at the same time. Who gets to work with Raju Hirani barely two years into the industry? This will sink in only after the first trial [screening]. Dutt is a rockstar and all-heart. The first film of his that I watched was Vaastav (1999). I haven't started shooting yet, but Raju sir and Ranbir have jammed a lot with Sanjay sir. He even gave the first clap. It's hard to believe one man has led this life."

Known for his dedication to the craft, Kaushal might find some serious competition at the other end in Ranbir. Kaushal called Ranbir's homework 'on-point'. He said, "During workshops, I got to know him better. There is a star-like quality in him, but he has no starry airs. He is a great listener. As an actor, his homework is on-point. We bond well and spend a lot of time around each other. On set, he is focused yet easy going and does not let anything distract him."

Hirani's biopic also stars Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala in pivotal roles. The film is expected to arrive in theatres in December 2017.
