The last time Govinda was in the news, it was when the trailer for his next film, Aa Gaya Hero released. The film marks the actor’s comeback as the main lead after a long time. Now, Govinda is back in the news, but for all the wrong reasons.
In various interviews, Chi Chi (as he is fondly called) has lashed out at director David Dhawan and filmmaker Karan Johar. Govinda and David are considered one of the most successful actor-director pairs of their time. But the dancing star is hugely upset with the director.
He revealed about this in a recent interview where he said, “I did 17 films with him. When I asked David to make the 18th film with me, he took my subject and titled it Chashme Baddoor and cast Rishi Kapoor in it. Then I asked him to give me a guest appearance. He didn’t do that too. After that, I didn’t meet him for some years. I kept requesting him to take at least one shot with me so that it could be my 18th film with him. But I don’t know what he had in his mind.”
Govinda also made some serious allegations against David. “In David Dhawan’s nature, there’s always been an element of dominance. If someone’s film is working well, he doesn’t like or appreciate it. He’s the jealous kind and he likes that fact that people are not doing well in their field of work. And when he feels that his work is going for a toss because of someone, he makes sure that the person doesn’t come in his way. I think he was feeling the pressure f me being in a part of politics, so he just went away. I’m not expecting anything. May God bless him,” he added.
Talking about Johar, Govinda expressed his displeasure at not being called on his chat show. “He (Karan) must have said that it would be a matter of national respect for him if he calls Govinda, but he is releasing Varun’s film (Badrinath Ki Dulhania) just a week after my film. He shows that he’s very humble and innocent, but woh mujhe David se zyaada jealous and zyaada khatarnak lagta hai. (I find him more jealous and dangerous than David). He has never called me in 30 years. He doesn’t see actors who are not the part of his group and doesn’t even say a hello, I doubt,” he lashed out.
Some time back, when Govinda had been upset at not being called on Johar's show, the filmmaker had said, “We had thought about it. It would be an absolute honour and privilege to have Govinda on the show. My apologies that he hasn’t been and he felt bad about it. There is no intention to hurt him. He is a terrific artist and a great movie star. I would love to call him. I will take a note and call him and I hope he accepts my invitation.”
During the ‘Tamma Tamma’ song launch, when Varun was asked his take on Govinda’s comments, he brushed aside the question saying, “Mujhe kuch sunai nahin de raha (I am not able to hear anything).”
