It seems Akshay Kumar’s positive run at the box-office continues with his latest outing, Jolly LLB 2. The film has earned Rs47.25 crore in its first weekend, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The Subhash Kapoor directed film opened on a decent note by earning Rs12 crore on its opening day. The collections jumped to Rs16.25 crore on Saturday. As expected, the figures on Sunday grew further, reaching Rs19 crore.
This is Akshay’s fourth highest number in the opening weekend after Housefull 3 (2016), Rustom (2016) and Brothers (2015), which earned Rs53.27 crore, Rs49.53 crore and Rs47.42 crore respectively.
Jolly LLB 2 is reportedly made at a budget of Rs45 crore. This reportedly doesn’t include Akshay’s fees since he will have a share in the profits. Therefore, although the film has surpassed its budget, it needs a big return of investment to keep its producers happy.
This means that the film needs to pass the weekday test starting today. Its collections from today onwards will determine how big a profit venture it turns out to be.
The film is the second in the series after Jolly LLB (2013), which had Arshad Warsi playing the lead character.
