Box-office: Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 bags Rs12 crore nett on opening day

Released across 3600 screens, the producers would have expected more but the opening day figure is still a decent one.

Akshay Kumar's first film of 2017 Jolly LLB 2 has received fairly decent reviews and an average opening of Rs11.50 crore nett, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Jolly LLB 2 has had similar opening day collection as that of Akshay Kumar’s Airlift (2016) which bagged around Rs12.35 crore on its opening day. However, Jolly LLB 2 has had a much wider release (3600 screens in India). The production cost is around Rs30 crore, with a further Rs15 crore spent on promotions. This doesn’t included Kumar’s fees which according to certain reports is around Rs25 crore for this film.

The fairly positive reviews and a good word of mouth may help the film pump in better numbers over the weekend.

Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the second Jolly LLB film, saw Akshay Kumar replace Arshad Warsi in the lead role.

Meanwhile, the Republic Day week releases, Raees and Kaabil saw an expected dip in their collections. Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees bagged Rs16.25 nett in week two, thereby taking its overall collections thus far to Rs.126 crore nett. Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil has got better reviews, and it scored marginally better than Raees in week two bagging a nett of Rs.16.75 crore. But Kaabil's over all total still stands at Rs82.49 crore.

With Jolly LLB 2 getting a good opening, the collections of Raees and Kaabil are likely to dip further.
