Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan should be compared with Salman, not me: Govinda 

In a world full of inspiration, it’s common for actors to be inspired by their peers. However, no one likes to be clubbed as a clone. Gen-next actors Varun Dhawan and Ranveer Singh have often professed their appreciation for Govinda. They have also been compared with seasoned actor often. For Dhawan, this comparison stems from the choice of a few films like Main Tera Hero (2014) and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya (2014). For Ranveer its his infectious energy on and off screen that is reminiscent of Govinda. Singh and Govinda even worked together in Yash Raj Film's Kill Dill (2014)

The seasoned actor though is not bemused by the ‘Govinda tag’ that’s been attached to the gen-next actors. The actor chose to set the record straight. 

Says Govinda, "How can Varun be a Govinda? He’s the son of a big director. I think he's done about six films so far, out of which he’s done only two with his father. I did around 17 films with David Dhawan. To be a Govinda, one has to be an innocent, not much educated guy from a village who gets a break into films, and from there on he does whatever is asked of him. He isn’t respected, goes through a bad phase and then he makes a comeback. The struggle though never ends, for that’s the way his life has panned out always. Just when things seem fine, he enters into politics and ruins everything. An actor will have to go through all this to be even called a Govinda."

Adding further the actor says, “They (Ranveer, Varun) are fantastic kids. They are well educated guys who don’t contemplate after working, but they think a lot before picking a film. So, they ought to go beyond a Govinda. These guys are built like a Salman Khan, but no one compares them to him.” 

Earlier Varun was asked about the 'Govinda' tag at the launch of his upcoming flick Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya and the actor, too, refused to be drawn into this comparison.

"Right from being a child, I have been a big fan of Chi Chi (Govinda's pet name) bhaiyya, the three Khans and Akshay Kumar. These guys have paved the way for me to do cinema. Somewhere in my performance, these guys have played a part. What’s important is to be inspired by the right person," Dhawan said at Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya press conference.

With both Govinda and Varun Dhawan having expressed their thoughts, we hope that the needless comparisons end for once and for all.
