Director Sanjay Chhel will explore the Gujarati-Punjabi union in his next Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, which stars Paresh Rawal and Rishi Kapoor in the lead, with Vir Das and Telugu actress Payal Ghosh likely to play the lovebirds. India’s cultural diversity has been explored in inter-racial love stories such as 2 States (2014), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Chennai Express (2013) before.

The makers of Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi have unveiled the first teaser poster, and as the tagline suggests, 'lado magar pyar se' (fight with love), the film is likely to depict a sweet and sour relationship between a Gujarati and Punjabi family.

The 'Dhol, Dhokla, Dhichkkyaon' line is indicative of the humorous tussle that can be expected between the Punjabi and Gujarati characters.

The poster reinforces stereotypes, showing dandiya sticks in the hand of the Gujarati character, while the Punjabi character has an alcohol bottle.

Kapoor directed Rawal in Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999), but the duo will work together for the third time. They were last seen together in Damini (1993).

Lyricist-writer Chhel had made his directorial debut with Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam (2008). The release date of Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi is yet to be finalised, though as the posters suggest, it will be a summer release.
