Saif Ali Khan is thankful to producers Cinestaan Film Company for backing Kaalakaandi and releasing it in theatres. He feels they could have sold it to be released in another medium. “I thank Cinestaan for releasing the film in theatres,” said Khan during the launch of the film’s trailer.

Cinestaan Film Company is a sister concern of Cinestaan.com.

Kaalakaandi was to be released this year, but will now hit the theatres on 12 January 2018. The makers of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati haven’t decided on the new release date yet. There are chances that the film might be released any time in the beginning of 2018. When Khan was asked what would they do in case Padmavati is also released on 12 January, he said he will think of postponing the release date.

“If Padmavati comes in (on the same day), we will think of shifting our release date. I hope we don’t have to do that,” he said.

But Khan also feels that there is space for two different films releasing on the same day. “It would have been nice to see Kaalakaandi releasing with Padmavati as it shows that we have a film industry, which makes different kinds of movies. Recently, we saw Secret Superstar and Golmaal Again releasing on the same day and both films did well. Personally, I feel it’s a good time to have films releasing alongside one another.”

He was quick to add, “But filmmakers are wary about it and you need to take that into consideration.”
