Well-known Tamil actor Napoleon Duraisamy, who has acted in over 100 films in various languages, including the Tamil blockbuster Kizhakku Cheemayile (1993), is making his Hollywood debut with Devil's Night: Dawn Of The Nain Rouge (2019).
The film, which is being directed by Sam Logan Khalegi, will have Jesi Jensen playing the lead. The 90-minute crime/supernatural thriller will have Napoleon playing a museum curator. Istvan Lettang is the cinematographer of the film which is likely to be dubbed in Tamil as well.
Interestingly, the film, which is being shot in the US, will have another Tamilian, singer and actor Devan Ekambaram, who has worked as a music director and actor in many films, also making his Hollywood debut.
Giving details of the film and how he came to be part of it, Napoleon said, "The film is set in Detroit and produced by Tel K Ganesan. Ganesan is a friend who is from my hometown and he wanted me to play a role in this film. I was scared, but the producer gave me confidence and asked me to be part of it. I told him my accent might be a problem, but he gave me confidence and said I would be able to ace it and that was how it was. Hollywood films have live recording as opposed to Tamil films, for which we dub. So, it was a learning experience for me."
The actor, who was a junior minister in the United Progressive Alliance government headed by prime minister Manmohan Singh, said he would continue acting in Hollywood films if audiences accepted him. Napoleon, who migrated to the US a few years ago, said, "I am already in talks for another film after this one."
